Bristol North Swimming Baths, Gloucester Road, Bristol
Bristol City Council closed down the popular Bristol North baths in 2005, as part of an overhaul of swimming facilities in the city. The authority said Bristol North was in disrepair and too expensive to run.
The site was bought and originally going to be turned into an NHS Health centre, but so far nothing has happened. Everything is still there and the power is on in some parts, some very nice original features, it's just a shame about the suspended ceiling that was put up! We made a nice and early entry into the site and indeed the building, much to the amazement of a few local onlookers! There was a fair amount to see too, and we spent quite a long time in there. It was fairly dark inside the building so had to break out the long exposures for most of the shots. Oddly enough, the power appeared to still be on in the basement so were able to quite easily explore down there too, which wasn't expected at first.
