Industrial Sites
NGTE Pyestock, Farnborough/FleetVisited in December 2011, January, March and December 2012. This is Pyestock. What more is there to say? The world and his wife have heard of this place. And if you haven't, are you really an explorer? Filled with near misses, amazing structures and adrenaline fuelled entrances, my visits to the place delivered on every level.
Portishead Underground Storage Tanks, PortisheadVisited January 2012. These were mainly used to store aviation fuel. This was my first jaunt of 2012, and a nice little New Years trip. Other than encountering lovely sharp fences and an angry elderly woman, everything went very well.
Vencel Resil, WhitecroftVisited in April 2012. It was a rather last minute decision to check this place out, after not having much luck nearby due to 'workmen' loading their 'tools' into the back of an unmarked van. Certainly an interesting little derp and worth it.
Norgren Factory, Shipston-on-StourJust outside Stratford upon Avon lies the small and friendly historic town of Shipston on Stour. Having had relatives here all my life, I've been aware of this factory for years, but only recently thought about paying it a visit. It was nice to see a place of this size that hasn't been vandalised or burnt.
Tone Mills, Wellington, SomersetVisited in September 2012. I knew about this site before I even got into the exploring game, and didn't get my backside into gear until now to see it, but it was still worth a visit despite nature starting to take it's toll in places!
CWM Coke, Beddau, South WalesVisited in September 2012. And so, we found ourselves deep in Wales early (ish) on a Sunday morning. And as it was Wales, it was wet. Really wet. Still, this didn't dampen our spirits, and we were able to enjoy and take in the vast place that is CWM Coke, a classic.
Coles Quarry, BackwellHaving lived so close to this one for nearly all my life, I'm still asking ,myself why I haven't had a look here before. Maybe it's because I thought there wasn't really anything up here? Who knows. It's nothing special, but certainly worth a look if you happen to be in there local area and have some time to kill.
Edison Swan Cable Works, Lower LydbrookThis one was first explored years ago, and was brought to my attention my a friend who has been in before. On a traditionally wet and windy day in the Forest of Dean, we decided to finally get it done and dusted. Unfortunately, the day didn't end quite the way we had planned… Read on to find out what happened!
Millennium Mills, LondonWhat is there to say about this place? It's Millennium Mills. Everyone has heard of this place, and it's been done by the thousands over the years. Some would call it the 'king of derps', along with London's other landmarks such as Battersea Power Station. One thing I will say, whoever designed this place was on something at the time. It's a maze, and navigating in took us an age (although that may or may not be down to the building design….).
Healing's Mill, TewksburyKnown as this to the locals, it's commonly known as Tewksbury Mill.
It's not very often Tewksbury is brought up in the Urban Exploring world, but this is proof that it does deserve it's place there. Sure, it's not the most epic thing currently going, but this mill was worth the hours drive if you ask me. We were even able to educate some of the local kids on what we do.. And advise them to stay safe, of course! Battersea Power Station, LondonProbably one of my favourite sites to ever visit, this place certainly delivers on pretty much every level. Sure, people were doing it 5 years ago, but it's still the same site all this time later. It's one of the most iconic sites in this country, and to be able to explore it in the depth we did is something very special indeed.
